Metakognitiv terapi - MCT
Discover a easier way to feel better.
As one of Sweden’s most experienced clinical psychologists within MCT, I help you to find the right method for your individual needs. My goal is for treatment to feel safe, uncomplicated, and concrete.
“It wasn’t the thoughts that changed, but how I related to them. I no longer need to analyse everything that comes into my mind.”
Common questions about MCT
This is Metacognitive Therapy (MCT)
Current research shows that what maintains problems such as anxiety, low mood and low self-esteem is persistent worry and rumination, excessive attention to perceived problems and threats, and unhelpful coping behaviours that reinforce emotional distress. The aim of MCT is to help people regain flexible control over their attention and thinking, enabling them to break free from these unhelpful patterns.
Effective for a wide range of common mental health problems
MCT is effective for a range of conditions characterised by excessive worry, such as Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Anxiety Disorder and Health Anxiety. It has also demonstrated strong results in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and persistent depression. In my clinical experience, MCT is also highly effective for stress-related conditions and burnout, where similar patterns of thinking often contribute to delayed recovery.
Many people also seek psychological therapy for low self-esteem or difficulties in relationships. MCT can be highly effective in these areas too, helping people develop new ways of relating to their thoughts, themselves and others.
The treatment Process
MCT is an active, change-oriented therapy, where we work from a shared understanding of the thinking processes that maintain the problem. Treatment is often around 10 sessions, although in some circumstances MCT can be a somewhat longer treatment. At the start of therapy, we will discuss goals, how to structure the treatment, and the likely duration of therapy.
Certified MCT Therapist
Following training in Copenhagen and Oxford, I am an MCT Institute certified MCT therapist on the advanced level. This means that I am trained to deliver Metacognitive Therapy as it was developed and evaluated in clinical research, including work with more complex psychological difficulties.
